at least 42 Syrian soldiers and Hezbollah fighters killed in Israeli strikes in Aleppo

This is the heaviest death toll for the Syrian army since the start of the Israeli offensive, according to the NGO. At least 6 Lebanese Hezbollah fighters and 36 Syrian soldiers were killed in Israeli strikes in Aleppo, in northern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) announced on Friday March 29.

These new Israeli strikes notably targeted weapons depots of the Lebanese pro-Iranian movement, said the NGO based in the United Kingdom and which has a vast network of sources in Syria. The strikes also targeted factories that fall under the Syrian Defense Ministry but are currently under the control of pro-Iranian groups, according to the OSDH.

No comment from the IDF

“The Israeli enemy launched an air attack against different sites in Athriya, southeast of Aleppo”declared a military source cited by the official Syrian agency Sana, reporting “several deaths and injuries among civilians and soldiers”. Contacted by AFP from Jerusalem, the Israeli army responded “do not comment” this press information.

Since the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria, targeting the army but also pro-Iranian groups fighting alongside the regime of Bashar Al-Assad. At the same time, Israel and Hezbollah have engaged in daily exchanges of fire along the Israeli-Lebanese border since the start of the Gaza war.

The Israeli army announced in March that it had reached “about 4 500 Hezbollah targets” in Lebanon and Syria since the start of the war in Gaza.
