A strong mobilization in sight. Between 21,000 and 26,000 participants are expected, Saturday September 23, in marches organized “against systemic racism and police violence, for public and union freedoms and social justice”, according to a territorial intelligence document consulted by franceinfo. This figure, rather high for this type of event, is however “in the process of consolidation”, territorial intelligence tells franceinfo, adding that on Thursday, at midday, it is still “difficult to assess the real scope” of this call to demonstrate.

This appeal, launched after the death of Nahel, 17, killed by a police officer on June 27, comes from political parties, such as La France insoumise (LFI) and Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV), but also from around a hundred associations, unions like the CGT, various collectives or movements like Extinction Rebellion. On the contrary, the PCF is not calling for participation and the Socialist Party has announced that it will not be present.

Between 70 and 100 local variations of this demonstration have been identified, according to territorial intelligence, which identifies “risk of disturbance to public order” in Angers (Maine-et-Loire), Caen (Calvados), Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), Grenoble (Isère), Bordeaux (Gironde), Saint-Étienne (Loire), Le Puy-en-Velay (Haute-Loire) , Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle) and Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). “IThere will be gatherings in large centers and risks of disturbances to public order in cities where currents linked to the ultra-left are used to committing abuses.territorial intelligence tells franceinfo.
