A week after the floods which hit Libya, the extent of the toll is becoming clearer. At least 11,300 people have died in the town of Derna, and 170 others elsewhere in the east of the country, and around 10,100 residents are still missing, according to a new report released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs , Sunday September 17, citing the Libyan Red Crescent. The latter had already mentioned such an assessment on Thursday to the American agency AP.

On the night of Sunday September 10 to Monday September 11, Storm Daniel caused torrential rains and the rupture of two dams upstream of Derna, a town of 100,000 inhabitants, causing a flash flood which devastated several neighborhoods. Saturday evening, the Minister of Health of the administration of eastern Libya put forward a death toll of 3,252.
