When he was 56, Bernard Pino took out a student loan to become a doctor. 10 years later, he was able to take the oath and become the doctor of the small island of Sein, in Finistère.
“The inhabitants of the island of Sein really need to have a doctor on a daily basis, and I need to have an island in my life”, he summarizes. At 67, Bernard Pino became the doctor of this island of Finistère, after obtaining his diploma. He is also the one who distributes the medicines, with kindness and humor. “You have to be a doctor, pharmacist, caregiver, nurse, veterinarian”he laughs.
“It was, I think, an absolute necessity”
“He is very kind, very gentle. He is always there and he always listens to us”, summarizes one of his patients. Photographer, director of a dance school, computer scientist, candidate for an election… Bernard Pino has known many lives before this one. “All the jobs I was able to do in the meantime were exciting, innovative, but I was bored, in fact. Being a doctor was, I think, an absolute necessity.“, he confides. He therefore resumed his medical studies and took out a student loan at the age of 56, until he officially became a doctor in September 2023, in front of his very moved family.
