According to what was advanced by the daily “USA Today”, the Texas organization submitted a one-year contract offer to Click on Monday. It was also more than $1 million, the compensation the 44-year-old was entitled to in 2022. However, he turned down the offer, wanting a longer deal, and suffered the ax after publicly expressing his dismay at meeting major league baseball’s general managers.
“We are grateful for all of James’ accomplishments. We’ve had success in each of his three seasons here and he’s been a huge part of that. I want to personally thank him, while wishing him and his family the best of luck,” owner Jim Crane said in a statement.
Click was hired in January 2020 after the firing of Jeff Luhnow, who had already been suspended for a year by MLB for the signal theft scandal the Astros were involved in in 2017. During his reign, Houston advanced to the playoffs every year and competed in the last two World Series.
