When he was in orbit, Thomas Pesquet was able to observe the most beautiful of the planet, but also the most disturbing. A witness who has become a whistleblower, the astronaut will return in particular, in a documentary broadcast on April 25 on France 2, on hurricanes, visible from the international space station, with devastating effects.
Extreme rains and storms are becoming more frequent and stronger. The satellites say it, the eyes of Thomas Pesquet too. From the ISS, he sees about fifty lightning a day. But between his two missions, these phenomena seem to have increased. And he saw the hurricanes born in the Atlantic around the equator, and hit the Caribbean and American coasts. “We are really aware that there is a machine of destruction that is being put in place”says Thomas Pesquet.

“We feel that there is a thermal, mechanical power, it’s really a factory”describes the astronaut. “Afterwards, when we pass above, I took photos right in the eye of the cyclone, and there we see walls of clouds on kilometers high which turn”relates Thomas Pesquet. “And you realize the power. But it’s still an extraordinary experience.”
