In France, there were 94 femicides in 2023, according to official figures. However, feminist associations dispute these figures.
That’s a 20% drop. In 2023, the number of feminicides has retreated. From 118 in 2022, they increased to 94 last year. The results are far from satisfactory, commented the Minister of Justice. The tone is the same for the former minister responsible for Equality between women and men, Isabelle Rome. If the figure is still too large for her, there remains “encouraging” and this thanks to “different actions carried out”according to her.
94 or 134 feminicides in 2023?
While the 2023 number is encouraging for some, it is skewed for others. According to the Nous tous collective, committed to the fight against violence against women, the results are far from accurate. There would have been 134 feminicides in 2023, or 40 more than what the executive announced. According to this association, the figures do not take into account cases of feminicides currently under investigation.
