Assessment of COVID-19 in Quebec | 42 fewer hospitalizations, six deaths

(Montreal) The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has continued to drop in the past few hours, although they still number in the hundreds.

According to the government report published on Wednesday, 2,095 patients with the disease were in hospital, which represents a decrease of 42 compared to the previous day. Of this number, 716 people are being treated specifically for COVID-19.

In intensive care, there were 48 patients, 25 of them due to the disease, a decrease of five.

The death toll, however, continued to rise, with six new victims. Among them, five died two to seven days ago and one more than seven days ago.

In all, 17,774 Quebecers have lost their lives since the start of the pandemic.

Authorities have also reported 698 new cases of the disease. This data is only partial, since the screening centers are reserved for certain priority clienteles. At least 32 cases detected by rapid tests must be added.

The positivity rate has further declined, amounting to 8.7%.

The pace of the vaccination campaign was still rather slow on Tuesday. According to the government, 6,294 Quebecers have received a dose of vaccine.
