These 1,243 new cases bring the weekly average to 1,088, a figure that has been falling sharply for a few weeks now. Note that these data probably reflect only a portion of total infections due to limited access to PCR screening tests. Moreover, the proportion of PCR screening tests proving positive for COVID-19 remains high, at 11%.

There are also 25 deaths linked to the disease – a high in recent days – bringing the total of deaths caused by COVID-19 to 16,069 in the province.

In the health network, the authorities recorded on Monday a drop of 19 hospitalizations linked to COVID-19, or 333 new entries and 352 exits. To date, 2,038 patients remain hospitalized in connection with the virus, of which 58 are still in intensive care, a drop of three cases in this regard (21 entries, 24 exits). Of the total, 686 patients were admitted with a “main diagnosis” of COVID-19; the others were admitted for other reasons, but later tested positive.

However, the number of absent health care workers rose again on Tuesday, after having experienced several successive declines in recent days. They were indeed 4199 Tuesday to have to isolate themselves for reasons related to the COVID-19, which represents an increase of just over 100 people compared to the day before.

On the vaccination side, 5,436 additional doses were administered during the day on Monday, the vast majority of which were fourth doses. According to the VaccinTracker Quebec site, just over 87% of the population has so far received one dose, 83.7% has two doses, 53.06% three doses and barely 17.4% of citizens have four doses. .

A total of 273,339 rapid tests have been self-reported so far on the government platform, including 228,598 positives. For Monday alone, 236 tests were reported, including 198 positive.

On Sunday, 8,783 screening tests were carried out, a relatively stable figure compared to the weekly average.

Last Thursday, the National Director of Public Health, Dr.r Luc Boileau, had confirmed that the seventh wave is not behind us yet, but that the situation is improving, the indicators being more and more encouraging. Public Health, however, says it fears a rise in cases in the fall. A new vaccination campaign against COVID-19 will also be organized in the coming weeks.

“We estimate that within a week or two, we will be able to model what should happen during the fall, but we estimate that there will certainly be an increase in cases again”, explained the then. Dr Boileau.
