The upward trend in COVID-19 cases continues in Quebec, as several relaxations come into effect in the province. There is also an increase in the number of people hospitalized.
The 509 new cases reported Monday bring the daily average to 636. The trend is up 14% over one week.
As has been the case since this summer, the increase in cases is concentrated among the unvaccinated. These report an average of 402 new cases per day, compared to 216 in people adequately vaccinated. This represents a rate of 228 new cases per million unvaccinated, compared to 33 new cases per million adequately vaccinated.
The situation continues to be extremely worrying in Nunavik, where the increase continues. The region reports an average of 215 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants daily.
The second most affected region at present, the Eastern Townships is also experiencing a sharp increase in cases. This brings in an average of 15 per 100,000 inhabitants. It has just overtaken Chaudière-Appalaches, which brings in 14.
Montreal is also showing an upward trend, with an average of 9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The additional death brings the daily average to three. The trend has thus been slightly downward for a week.
The number of people hospitalized increased by 13 to 202. Of the number, 42 are in intensive care. Still, the number of people hospitalized is 10% lower than what was observed a week ago.
In the hospital, too, vaccination has an impact. There is an average of 4.6 new hospitalizations per million unvaccinated, compared to 0.8 among fully vaccinated.
To date, 79.6% of Quebecers have received at least one dose and 77.5% of Quebecers are fully vaccinated.
