Undefeated in their last seven receptions against ASSE in Ligue 1, Lyon preserved their supremacy at home in the derby against the Greens on Friday January 21. Les Gones won by the narrowest of margins (1-0) in a tense match on the pitch and in the stands despite the sanitary gauge. Moussa Dembélé scored the only goal of the match, from the penalty spot. Defeated for the seventh consecutive time, the Stéphanois remain red lantern.

The Lyonnais had not known the taste of success at Groupama Stadium since last October 30, but this victory against the Greens is not so reassuring for the Gones. Faced with the last in the championship, Peter Bosz’s men struggled to break the Saint-Etienne lock and showed a worrying lack of control. They still saw their domination in the first period materialized by a goal from Moussa Dembélé, from the penalty spot at the quarter of an hour of play.

In the absence of their top scorer, Wahbi Khazri, the Stéphanois meanwhile struggled to get chances. Even if they put their foot on the ball more on the return from the locker room, their technical waste and their offensive timidity did not allow them to worry Anthony Lopes. The new goalkeeper of the Greens, Paul Bernardoni, on the contrary, was put more to contribution and allowed his teammates to keep the hope of equalizing, in vain, thanks to several decisive interventions.

After four draws and a narrow success at Troyes (1-0), the three points obtained without shining by the Lyonnais have at least the merit of bringing OL temporarily back into the top 10 in the standings. Les Gones are also embarking on a winning streak before facing Monaco, Nice, Lens and Lille, as well as Marseille, after the game was halted and postponed a few weeks ago due to a bottle throw at Dimitri Payet. The Stéphanois remain red lantern, with only twelve points on the clock.
