“He was in crisis, he was fidgeting a lot, he was screaming in pain,” testified agent Alexis Nadeau, this Thursday at the trial of Nicola Spagnolo.

Spagnolo, a close associate of organized crime, allegedly committed his crime in the Old Port of Montreal on the night of August 2, 2020. That evening, the alleged victim went out for a drink with friends. And outside, he would have addressed a woman who accompanied Spagnolo. The latter would not have appreciated the gesture and after a short argument, the accused would have stabbed the young man, in the middle of the street.

“We saw a laceration of a few centimeters, we could see his intestines, a lot of blood had escaped,” testified agent Nadeau.

An ambulance quickly arrived. And during the transport to the hospital, the policeman tried to find out more, in order to try to find the aggressor.

” [Le jeune homme] was in a state of crisis, he said two things: ‘He’s an old rich man’ and ‘I can’t believe he stabbed[poignardé] “said the policeman.

Except that he couldn’t find out more, the victim was so writhing in pain. In cross-examination, the agent also admitted that the victim had sent him to graze by saying that the police “were not going to do anything, as usual”.

Investigators, however, identified Spagnolo as the attacker. The latter, who is charged with aggravated assault, has however pleaded not guilty.

His trial continues on Friday.
