Marc-André Grenon appeared Thursday to answer for the murder of Guylaine Potvin, coldly assaulted and murdered.

Grenon’s appearance took place shortly after 9:30 a.m. by videoconference from the Saint-Hyacinthe police station.

The accused appeared there impassive, remaining with his mouth open while Judge Pierre Simard read the serious charges against him.

The victim’s parents, Jeanine Caouette and Romuald Potvin, as well as his brother Carl Potvin were present virtually for this first stage.

They had previously confided in an interview that they had received a call from the Sûreté du Québec to schedule a meeting with investigators on Wednesday.

“It was very special to see them here”, admits Mme Caouette. “I was looking forward to [mettre] a face on that person. Justice will be done for the actions that have been taken. »

“I don’t know how it’s going to be. It is sure that it will hurt, ”indicated in an interview with LCN Mme Caouette.

Marc-André Grenon will remain detained for the duration of the proceedings.

DNA: The Key

It was DNA evidence collected from both Guylaine Potvin and the victim from Quebec that made it possible to link the two heinous crimes.

However, SQ agents had to wait 22 years before being able to link the DNA found at the two crime scenes in Grenon.

Prosecutors have not yet determined whether the Quebec and Jonquière files will be combined and where the trial would take place, if at all.

“The DPCP would like to highlight the strength and resilience of the victim for the Quebec file and also of the family of victim Guylaine Potvin,” commented Ms.e Bernard, without however saying if he had spoken to the victim of Quebec.
