The intelligence services of the “Five Eyes” network are said to have informed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of possible Indian involvement in the assassination of a leader of the Sikh community in British Columbia, according to CTV News.
In an exclusive interview with the CTV News television network, which will be broadcast on Sunday, the United States Ambassador to Canada David Cohen confirmed that the Canadian Prime Minister had received information from the “Five Eyes” to support these allegations against the India.
The “Five Eyes” are a network of intelligence services involving Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
Remember that last Monday, Trudeau dropped a bombshell by accusing India of having “a possible link” with the assassination on Canadian soil of a Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, an accusation described as “absurd” by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Tensions have since escalated between the two countries.
“I can say that there was information sharing,” confirmed Mr. Cohen in an interview. There has been a lot of communication between Canada and the United States on this subject, and this is as far as I am willing to go on the subject,” he said.
“There was a sharing of information within the “Five Eyes” who supported Canada in the statement that the Prime Minister made,” added Mr. Cohen on CTV News.
Already, on Thursday, the national network CBC had indicated that Canada had not only conducted an investigation on the ground, but also relied on communications coming from the “Five Eyes”.
According to CBC, part of the electronic interceptions affected Indian diplomats in Canada.
