Little is known about the person who allegedly opened fire on Donald Trump on Saturday night, injuring the former president and killing a member of the audience.
The suspect was identified by the FBI as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. His motives are still unknown.
The man was killed by the Secret Service. He reportedly has no criminal record.
At age 20, he could have voted in his first presidential election, but his political leanings are unclear: He was registered as a Republican but reportedly donated $15 to a Democratic committee, according to CNN.
His father, Matthew Crooks, told CNN Saturday night that he was still trying to understand the situation. Police have been deployed near the family’s suburban Pittsburgh home.
A video released by the TMZ website shows a young man with brown hair lying face down on a roof, about 150 meters from the podium where Donald Trump spoke. A semi-automatic weapon, AR-15 type, was reportedly found at the scene.
Two other people were injured in the crowd.
