In France, a compulsory internship is required for second-year high school students. But as the fateful date approaches, in June, students are still looking.

More than 500,000 students must, for the first time, complete an observation course from June 17 to 28. The idea was launched by the Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, who has since become Prime Minister. But less than three weeks before the deadline, 50% to 70% of students are still without a solution. Parents are worried because companies are not always enthusiastic about this immersive internship. “I sent a lot of cover letters, a lot of CVs to several different companies”confides a student. “I either got negative responses or I simply didn’t get any responses”he reports.

“There are areas that are quite complicated to research (…) it’s stressful”, relates another student, distressed at not finding an internship in time. To help them in their research, a national platform called “1jeune1solution” lists the available offers. When none matches, some parents use their network. “Without contacts, it’s always more complicated to find a company that wants us”analyzes a student.
