With the filing of a charge against Sébastien Lapointe on Friday, the total of alleged domestic murders rose to seven in Quebec, or as many in four months as for all of 2023.
The 37-year-old man was accused of killing his wife, Marie-Claude Raymond, 51, who was found lifeless and seriously injured in their Terrebonne residence. His death was noted on the spot, indicated the officers of the Terrebonne Intermunicipal Police Service. Sébastien Lapointe was on the scene and was arrested there. He appeared last Friday at the Laval courthouse, and must return before a judge on Friday.

Since the start of 2024, seven women are presumed to have been killed by their spouse. Of this total, five men were arrested and charged with murder. In the two other cases, namely for the murders of Louise Houle and Lorraine Marsolais, the police ruled that their spouses had taken their own lives after killing them. No charges will therefore be filed against them.
There were seven suspected domestic murders in Quebec in 2023, but 15 in 2022 and 15 others in 2021.
