Artificial intelligences more powerful than GPT-4 could present “serious risks for society and humanity”, according to a hundred experts including Yoshua Bengio and Elon Musk, who ask to interrupt the training of the systems for six months. .
Among the signatories of an open letter addressed to artificial intelligence (AI) laboratories, we find in particular the founder of Mila – Quebec Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Yoshua Bengio, the CEO of SpaceX, Tesla and Twitter, Elon Musk or even Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.
The latter fear a race for “digital minds” and believe that AI systems with intelligence that can rival that of human beings can pose “serious risks” for society, if not all of humanity.
Thus, they are calling for a six-month break that will have to be taken advantage of to make AI systems more precise, more transparent and above all, trustworthy, can we read in the letter initiated by the Future of Life Institute which is hosting an online press conference Wednesday on the subject.
“AI systems with human competitive intelligence can pose serious risks to society and humanity,” reads the letter signed by more than 1,125 tech players.
