Artificial Intelligence | Technology is at ‘tipping point’, says Nvidia

(Taipei) The world is at the “tipping point of a new computing era”, Nvidia boss Jensen Huang said Monday at the Computex technology fair in Taiwan, presenting a set of products related to artificial intelligence (AI ) in his first public address in four years.

The Taiwanese-American manufacturer of electronic chips, highly sought after since the boom in artificial intelligence, saw its stock market value jump by 25% overnight, to nearly a trillion dollars, on Wednesday, after quarterly results boosted by demand, which far exceeded expectations.

Founded 30 years ago by Jensen Huang, Nvidia is known for creating graphics chips sought after in video games, which later became the engines of complex processes involved in artificial intelligence, known as accelerated computing.

Its chips are a central ingredient in the generative AI revolution, capable of delivering the computing hardware needed to stream complex content in seconds from data centers around the world.

“I haven’t made a public speech for four years. Wish me luck ! launched the boss of Nvidia in front of a compact audience.

“We have now reached the tipping point of a new computing era,” he said.

Among the new products on show was an artificial intelligence supercomputer platform called the DGX GH200, which he said is now “in full production”.

“We are delighted that Google Cloud, Meta and Microsoft are the first companies in the world to have access to it,” he added.

According to him, this platform is intended for “exploratory research on the pioneering front, the limits of artificial intelligence”.

In theory, the new supercomputer will help tech companies create more AI-related products, which require more complex computing tasks.
