Artificial intelligence | It’s time to think together: it’s a call to all!

The rapid development and deployment of AI, especially high-powered generative models like ChatGPT, challenges us all: as citizens, as workers, as leaders, and as creators.

They also challenge us as parents, teachers, caregivers and more. This technology is already entering several spheres of society and this is only the beginning.

We all need to think about it, to understand its opportunities and challenges and discover how to use this powerful technology to better meet the major challenges of our society, while protecting ourselves from the risks of malicious uses.

This is why the Conseil de l’innovation du Québec has been coordinating a collective reflection since April on the supervision of artificial intelligence by the State. This process is intended to be a broad, transparent and inclusive consultation exercise. It calls on experts as well as our collective intelligence.

This approach aims first to collect the opinion of those who have devoted their work for years to the responsible development of AI. They examine its effects on society, the relevant governance, legal, legal and regulatory frameworks, the transformations of work and professions, the deployment of State missions, the funding of research and companies. Nearly 150 ecosystem players are already mobilized on this front, under the co-direction of 15 recognized experts.

Your opinion matters

To make the process as inclusive as possible, a call for public contributions was also launched on June 8.

We are calling on the entire population to fully understand the impact of AI on the lives of Quebecers and to define the best measures to take. All are invited to express themselves by July 14th. Already, we have received more than 300 contributions and opinions, both from experts and from citizens and representatives of civil society.

Finally, a public forum will be organized in the fall to ensure that the greatest diversity of points of view is heard, and that all those who wish can contribute to the discussion.

The perspectives of all participants will be integrated, analyzed and considered, and the results of all this work will be published. The objective is to submit recommendations to government authorities by the end of the fall to guide public policies surrounding AI.

In Quebec, we are among the best in the world not only in artificial intelligence, but also in matters surrounding its ethical and responsible development. Let’s put these forces to work to bring the best ideas to the world, stay ahead of the curve, and build an ever fairer, more innovative and caring nation.
