Three men and a woman have just been assigned to travel to the moon as part of the Artemis 2 mission. A trip which also aims to prepare for the great adventure to Mars.
It is a journey that promises to be historic. The Artemis 2 mission marks the return of astronauts to the Moon. A first for more than 50 years and the last Apollo mission in 1972. “More than a return mission to the Moon, it is the next step that will lead humanity to Mars”, said Victor J. Glover, from Houston (United States). Indeed, the Artemis program aims to establish a living base in order to prepare for a longer and further journey to Mars.
Leaving end of 2024
But first, a crew of four will be sent into orbit around the Moon without landing. A crew made up of Commander Reid Wiseman, Canadian Jeremy Hansen, and for the first time a woman: Christina Hammock Koch. Last crew member, and not least, Victor Glover an African-American pilot. A big first there too. A unique crew that will take off, heading for the Moon, end of 2024.
