The emotion is strong in Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière, in the Hérault, after the confessions of the arsonist firefighter, a child of the village, municipal councilor, forester sapper. He admitted to having lit several fires over the past three years.
In the town, everyone knew the volunteer firefighter. His indictment and his imprisonment, Thursday, July 28, therefore stunned the inhabitants of Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière (Hérault). “We are very sad already, compared to his family. And we are shocked”, said a resident. This 37-year-old volunteer forester and firefighter, father of two, was fully invested in village life.
Member of the municipal council, he was very appreciated. According to a former colleague, he always dreamed of becoming a firefighter. Friday morning, his colleagues in the barracks prefer to remain silent, torn between sadness and a feeling of betrayal. To Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière, many say they are also relieved. In three months, nine fires were started near the village. The volunteer firefighter, who admitted the facts, now faces 15 years in prison and a fine of up to 150,000 euros.
