The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) arrested a 59-year-old man on Friday suspected of starting several fires in the Ville-Marie borough in recent days.
According to the SPVM, the suspect caused five fires this week, between July 29 and July 1.er August. He is said to have set fire to waste containers and a vehicle.
The man was arrested early Thursday morning while lighting a fire in a waste container at the back of a building on Crescent Street.
The suspect was arrested and appeared the same day at the Montreal courthouse. He faces five counts of arson and property damage.
According to the SPVM, the investigation will continue to determine if the suspect apprehended could be linked to other similar events. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
