Jessy Silva, a man in his thirties suspected of driving into a patrol car while trying to flee the police, was arrested Tuesday. He now faces several charges, including one of assault with a weapon.
The authorities announced his arrest in a press release. Jessy Silva allegedly deliberately drove into a Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) car on April 22. The event took place in the afternoon near the intersection of rue Masson and 18e Avenue, in the borough of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie.
The suspect managed to escape. “The investigation led by the North Criminal Investigation Division, with the support of neighborhood station 44 and several support units, made it possible to find the getaway vehicle on rue Baudelaire, in the borough of Saint-Léonard », Specifies the police.
He was arrested on Tuesday while walking on Sherbrooke Street East, in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.
The 31-year-old man appeared Wednesday at the Montreal courthouse. He is accused of assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, fleeing, theft of more than $5,000, receiving stolen property and possession of substances for the purpose of trafficking.
“The SPVM takes this opportunity to remind people that attacking police officers is simply unacceptable. Such acts will not be tolerated in our society. The people who commit them will be arrested to answer for their actions,” underlines the organization.
