Several wildfires east and west of Athens were still ongoing, fanned by strong winds. The arrested person is suspected of being the cause of a fire in Kouvaras. Carried by intense winds, this fire spread as far as Anavyssos, 40 km southeast of the Greek capital, in the densely populated region of Attica. “It’s a difficult fire, the winds are very strong up to 7 Beaufort (50 to 60km / h)”said firefighter spokesman Yannis Artopios.
About 80 km west of the Greek capital, 1,200 children have been evacuated from holiday camps threatened by fire near the seaside resort of Loutraki, near the Corinthian isthmus, announced the mayor, Giorgos Gkionis.
