The SPVQ arrested a suspect in the case of a fire that cost the life of a man and seriously injured a woman in November in the Saint-Roch district. The 33-year-old appeared briefly on Friday on a mischief charge.
Investigators from the Serious Crimes Unit arrested Jonathan Caron in connection with the November 11 fire. The blaze notably cost the life of Danny Émond, 61. His spouse, Josée Asselin was also burned on about 20% of her body during the fire.
The fire broke out at the back of an apartment building on rue de la Reine.
Caron, 33, appeared Friday afternoon at the Quebec City Courthouse. He is currently facing charges of mischief exceeding $5,000 on a building, but the Crown prosecutor in the case has already mentioned that more serious charges could be filed in the coming days.
Mand Jean-Philippe Lanthier also objected to the release of the accused, who will remain detained until his return to court scheduled for next Wednesday, February 2. The man already had open court cases, including three counts of breaking and entering and another count of assaulting a peace officer.
