The glassmaking giant Arc International, in Pas-de-Calais, has just restarted two of its ovens, and should turn them all back on by the end of the month. They had been turned off as the company could no longer support gas prices, which have fallen drastically in recent weeks.

Smoke will soon be coming out of these chimneys. After eight months of shutdown, the crystal factory of Arques (Nord Pas de Calais) restarts its ovens. A relief for the 4,500 French employees, and for the Minister Delegate for Industry, who made the trip on the morning of April 11. But these months of partial unemployment have left their mark on employees, who are now waiting to be reassured about their future.

Arcelor Mittal, Duralex to resume production

This restart is made possible by the drop in the price of gas. After months of soaring, the world price is now down. Gas costs less today than before the war in Ukraine. International Bow is not the only one to resume production. In the coming days, the steelmaker Arcelor Mittal should restart its furnaces, just like the glassmaker Duralexnext Monday. Satisfaction also for the brickyard Tellus ceramicin Lot-et-Garonne. The company halted production for four months, during which time it reorganized to switch to the four-day week.
