Several dozen graves were damaged in the Tourtoirac cemetery (Dordogne), France Bleu Périgord reported on Tuesday May 7. Investigators and criminal identification technicians from the gendarmerie carried out surveys.
“Wait for the police to do their job”
A craftsman who came to repair the cemetery gate discovered these inscriptions in black spray on Monday: “cowards”, “I hate you”, as well as tags referring to political figures or news items. The mayor of the town deplores the deterioration of a “fifty” of graves in total, including that of his grandmother. Dominique Durand wonders “what message” the author(s) of this damage “seek to pass” and if it is a “provocation”. “We must remain pragmatic and wait for the police to do their job”adds the elected official.
Since December, several cemeteries in the surrounding villages have been observed, notably on the calvaries of Saint-Pantaly-d’Excideuil, Cherveix-Cubas, Saint-Mesmin and Coulaures. Following these previous damages, an investigation was opened. Asked by France Bleu Périgord, the prosecution did not wish to say whether it was making a connection with the new tags discovered on Monday.
