Anger is high in the Blossières district of Orléans. Around a hundred people gathered on Saturday September 28 in the morning to oppose the closure of the post office in this district located north of the town of Loiret, reports France Bleu Orléans.
The closure is scheduled for October 31, even if a municipal postal agency must then take over. A petition was also launched. For now, “we have 4 000 signatures”, “the post office is not yet closed, we have to fight”, assures Mathieu Gallois, departmental advisor, to France Bleu Orléans.
Residents have been aware of this closure since the beginning of September, but it comes at the same time as the State’s announcement on Friday of the reduction of 50 million euros from the budget allocated this year to territorial postal presence contract. This contract is used in particular to finance the maintenance of La Poste in difficult neighborhoods and rural areas.
