A traffic accident involving a heavy goods vehicle and two school buses occurred around 4:30 p.m. Friday April 26 afternoon on the A216 at the Calais port ring road, indicates the Pas-de-Calais prefecture in a press release. The two buses were carrying middle and high school students of German nationality for one and French nationality for the other. The provisional report shows 26 minor injuries.

Around a hundred people are involved in total. Those who were not injured were “sheltered behind the emergency lane while waiting for replacement buses which will take them to a room made available by the Calais town hall where they will be taken care of”, specifies the prefecture. Around fifty firefighters are currently on site, reports France Bleu Nord.

The port ring road is closed between the port and the Marcel Doret roundabout (port direction towards the A16). Exit is obligatory at the port. The prefecture calls on motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid the area.
