Around a hundred middle and high school students involved in an accident between two buses and a truck in Pas-de-Calais

The provisional report shows 21 minor injuries and two more serious injuries.

A traffic accident involving a heavy goods vehicle and two school buses occurred around 4:30 p.m. Friday April 26 afternoon on the A216 at the Calais port ring road, indicates the Pas-de-Calais prefecture in a press release. The two buses carried 140 middle and high school students on a school trip, of German nationality for the first – coming from Frankfurt – and French for the second – coming from Essonne.

A medical-psychological emergency unit deployed

The report updated by the Pas-de-Calais prefecture this Friday evening shows 141 people involved in the accident which caused 21 minor injuries. All were transported to hospitals in Calais, Dunkirk and Boulogne-sur-Mer. A young French girl and a young German man were more seriously injured. The press release from the prefecture speaks of“an open fracture” and of “stomach ache requiring further examination”.

The people involved in the accident but not injured were transported to a room provided by Calais town hall “where they are currently taken care of by Civil Protection”. Medical surveillance is in place for the night. A medical-psychological emergency unit is also deployed.

The press release also indicates that‘”a bus from Germany and a bus from Essonne are being transported to pick up those involved unharmed”. The guides of the two groups are in contact “with the families of the victims”.
