UPDATE 5:40 p.m.

The consequences of heavy precipitation and heavy snow are still depriving approximately 45,000 Hydro-Québec customers of electricity across the province.

These service interruptions particularly affect Mauricie, the Laurentians, Centre-du-Québec and the Capitale-Nationale.

The Mauricie region is the hardest hit with 26,855 homes plunged into darkness.

In the National Capital, 9,384 homes do not have power; in Chaudière-Appalaches, the toll is 3,745 breakdowns.

Accumulations of up to 30 cm are expected in certain areas. This snow could “add considerable weight on structures and trees, making them more vulnerable to breakage,” warned Environment Canada in its special weather bulletin.

The North Shore and the Gaspé Peninsula will experience more extreme conditions than the rest of the province on Sunday.

Faced with the progression of outages, the state company confirmed on the social network X that it is “still too early to comment on the recovery times”.

“Branches and trees weakened by heavy snow break and come into contact with the network, which causes outages. The weather system will affect the province until Monday. We have been monitoring the situation since last Friday and we have had teams on duty on the ground since this morning. The mobilization continues and employees from other regions could travel to help the mobilized teams,” indicates Hydro-Québec.
