around 250 people gathered in front of the hospital, against the closing of night emergencies

They denounce “a policy of destruction of public health services”. About 250 people gathered on Tuesday, November 23, at the call of the FO and CGT unions, in front of the Castelsarrasin-Moissac intercommunal hospital. As of Wednesday, December 1, the night emergency service must close every day from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., for lack of staff.

According to management, this should last between 2 and 3 months. But the unions, some elected officials and residents fear that this closure will be final, or even that it will lead to disappearance of the hospital intercommunal.

Repercussions on the Montauban hospital

Among the consequences of this closure, the FO union fears the “difficulties for emergency personnel in Montauban, who will have to absorb the increase in activity without additional personnel”. Management says they will be watching the overload closely which could be passed on to Montauban.

Need to legislate

Present at the demonstration of this Tuesday, November 23, the mayor of Castelsarrasin believes that it is necessary “to legislate to have doctors in our countryside”. Jean-Philippe Besiers insists on the need for the State to tackle this problem, not hesitating to forcing young doctors to settle in rural areas.
