Rennes is getting stronger, Paris is getting lighter. The Breton club formalized the recruitment of Arnaud Kalimuendo, a 20-year-old French striker, on Thursday August 11. On loan from PSG to Lens for the past two seasons, the “Titi” is paying the price for the tough Parisian competition and the need to sell in a transfer window hitherto marked by arrivals (Vitinha, Nordi Mukiele, Renato Sanches) and the expensive extension of Kylian Mbappé.
First offensive recruit of the summer for Rennes
In difficulty to separate from its undesirables (Mauro Icardi, Julian Draxler, Idrissa Gueye, Layvin Kurzawa or Ander Herrera), Paris took advantage of the good rating enjoyed by Kalimuendo after his two seasons in Lens (21 goals in 65 games). For Rennes, Arnaud Kalimuendo is the first attacking recruit of the summer, after the arrival of goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and defenders Arthur Theate and Joe Rodon.

“It’s a slightly different profile: a player who likes to go deep, who goes fast, who is also a scorer, explained Rennes coach Bruno Genesio at a press conference even before the transfer was made official. It is yet another weapon in our team to score more goals. When we still want to do better than what we did last year, we still have to strengthen ourselves and also bring in competition.”
