Four suspects aged between 16 and 18 were arrested on Wednesday by Montreal police in connection with a violent armed attack that occurred in early September in the Anjou sector. Three of the young men are minors.
This was announced by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) in a brief press release, at the start of the afternoon.
The facts occurred on September 9, shortly before 9 p.m., at the intersection of Mousseau and Chaumont avenues. According to the police account, several individuals then “chased two victims” before attacking them, among other things, “with cayenne pepper, a telescopic baton and a machete”.
Shortly after, the assault continued in a business located near the intersection of Avenue Chaumont and Boulevard Roi-René. “The suspects then fled in two vehicles,” the police said.
Of the four suspects arrested Wednesday at their homes, three of them are minors. They therefore appeared on Wednesday before a judge of the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec, and their identity is protected by law. The fourth suspect, meanwhile, is 18 years old. He should appear during the day Thursday at the Montreal courthouse.
A number of charges will be filed against the suspects, including counts of assault with a weapon, attempted murder, robbery and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The Eastern Criminal Investigations Section led the investigation, with the support of the Anjou and Montreal-East/Pointe-aux-Trembles neighborhood stations, as well as certain specialized units.
“The investigators also want to underline the collaboration of many citizens, who sent useful information to the police, following media coverage of the search for these suspects last November”, also argued the SPVM.
