A man was shot and injured around 6:15 a.m. this morning outside a bar on boulevard de l’Acadie, near rue Mazurette, in the borough of Saint-Laurent, in Montreal. He was taken to hospital, but is said to be out of danger.
One or more shots – it is not known at the moment how many – would have been fired outside, but a conflict would have started inside a licensed establishment.
A large police deployment is still in place. Specialized intervention units, the canine unit and investigators were dispatched to the scene to try to clarify the circumstances of the event. The police are looking for casings and the murder weapon, and will try to view surveillance cameras that could tell them more about what happened.
Individuals have been arrested for investigation, but there are no arrests at this time. These individuals, as well as the victim, cooperate very little with the police.
The Cora lunches restaurant located inside the security perimeter is closed for the day. The bar where it all supposedly started is just above, on the second floor. An employee of Cora, who requested anonymity, told TVA Nouvelles that there was often noise coming from the bar when she arrived at work around 6:30 a.m., when by law the place should cease its activities at 3 o’clock.
