A 26-year-old man was stabbed Saturday evening after a conflict escalated in Félix-Leclerc Park in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
On Saturday evening, around 11 p.m., a call was made to 911 for a person injured by a stab wound in Félix-Leclerc Park, not far from the intersection of Langelier Boulevard and Bélanger Street.
At the scene, emergency services located a 26-year-old man, conscious but injured in the upper body by a bladed weapon or sharp object. The victim was taken to a hospital; during the night, doctors confirmed that his life was not in danger.
“According to initial information, it appears that a conflict escalated between several people, and that’s when the victim was injured,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department (SPVM). However, when the police arrived, the people involved had already fled.
A perimeter was set up and SPVM investigators and forensic identification technicians went to the scene to analyze the scene. Witnesses were also interviewed to try to shed light on the circumstances of this event.
“At this point in the investigation, there have been no arrests,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant. The SPVM also plans to conduct checks around the park, where surveillance cameras from businesses and homes could help provide more information on the people involved.
The scene was cleared on Sunday morning, but the investigation was still ongoing.
