Armed assault: a man stabbed in downtown Montreal

A 35-year-old man was taken to hospital following an armed attack in the Ville-Marie district during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) received a call around 1:00 a.m. Sunday, reporting a man stabbed at the intersection of Clark Street and René-Levesque Boulevard.

“According to witnesses, the victim had a conflict with a suspect who attacked him with a sharp object” and subsequently fled, reported SPVM spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.

The 35-year-old man was conscious when police arrived. He was transported to a hospital and was confirmed “out of danger” by medical authorities, according to the spokesperson.

The altercation between the victim and the suspect reportedly occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday. After the suspect fled, the victim went to get help and collapsed not far from the scene of the attack. However, “the basis of the conflict has not yet been established,” said the spokesperson.

SPVM investigators were on site with the canine unit early Sunday to determine the exact circumstances of this attack.
