Armed assault | A man seriously injured in Ville-Marie

A man was seriously injured Thursday evening during an armed assault in the Ville-Marie borough. Doctors, who initially feared for his life, finally declared him out of danger. A suspect has been arrested.


On Thursday evening, around 8:45 p.m., emergency services were called to 911 for a 22-year-old man who was allegedly the victim of an armed assault on Sainte-Catherine Street, near the intersection with Saint-Christophe Street, in the Ville-Marie borough.

The man, who was injured in the upper body, was taken to a hospital. Doctors initially feared for his life due to the severity of his injuries. “But ultimately, the victim is out of danger,” said Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), during an update on the incident at around 11:30 p.m.

The victim allegedly had an altercation with a man, who allegedly attacked her with a blunt object before fleeing. Around 9:50 p.m., the suspect was arrested near the intersection of Berger and Sainte-Catherine streets. He is the “only suspect involved in this event,” said Caroline Chèvrefils. He will be met by investigators in the coming hours.

Investigators also went to the scene to collect evidence and try to clarify the causes and circumstances of the altercation.
