(Toronto) The Toronto Argonauts traded quarterback Nick Arbuckle to the Edmonton Elks.
The Argonauts were awarded a conditional third-round pick and the rights to US quarterback Chad Kelly, a player who was on the Elks’ negotiating list.
The pick would become a second-round pick if Arbuckle, who signed a one-year deal with the Argonauts ahead of the season, agrees to stay in Edmonton by signing a new contract.
This transfer comes before the CFL trade deadline of 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Arbuckle completed 96 of his 153 passes for 1,158 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions in seven games this season (four starts, 2-2 record).
Arbuckle also had 25 yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns.
Arbuckle began his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders (2018-19).
He spent 2020 with the Rouge et Noir when the Stampeders gave up his rights, but the Ottawa side released him on Jan.31 before having to pay him a bonus of $ 150,000.
