(Toronto) The Canadian Football League has suspended Toronto Argonauts defensive back Chris Edwards for six games for his role in a row with a fan following the Eastern Division final.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeated the Argonauts 27-19 at BMO Field on Dec. 5 to advance to the Gray Cup final.
After the game, a few Argonauts players and staff were involved in an altercation with fans as they left the field.
Video of the incident, which circulated on social media, showed Edwards pushing aside a Tiger-Cats supporter.
The CFL said in a statement that the suspension will take effect in the first game of the season in which Edwards will be eligible to play.
Former Argonauts vice president of player personnel John Murphy was also involved in the incident. He was fired by the team on December 14.
The CFL also fined Argonauts quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson for an “inappropriate incident with a cameraman on the field” after the Eastern Finals.
