Argentina | Thirteen dead after club roof collapses during storm

(Buenos Aires) At least 13 people died Saturday in Bahia Blanca, a port city in southwest Argentina, following the collapse of the roof of a sports club during a strong storm, authorities said.

“Unfortunately, emergency services confirm the death of 13 people at the Bahiense del Norte club. Firefighters continue to search for people still under the rubble,” the municipality said in a statement.

The tragedy occurred during a skating competition within this club.

In addition to heavy rainfall, the city, which is partly deprived of electricity, recorded wind gusts of more than 140 km/h, according to the meteorological services.

These bad weather conditions also affected small neighboring towns, some even experiencing hail.
