“The day has come to say goodbye to football”. Gonzalo Higuain announced at a press conference on Monday, October 3, that he will retire from sport at the end of the MLS season. The 34-year-old Argentine striker still has at least two regular season matches to play with Inter Miami, current 7th in the North American championship and candidate for qualification for the play-offs.

“[Le football] brought me so much. It is a profession that I feel privileged to have exercised, with its good and bad times”, declared in particular the one who made the heyday of Real Madrid (2006-2013), Naples (2013-2016) or even Juventus Turin (2016-2020). Very moved, the latter burst into tears in front of the press.

Born in Brest, Higuain was selectable for the France team, but he chose the Argentinian nationality of his father, a former pro who played for the Finistère club. With the Albiceleste, he played in a World Cup final, lost in 2014 against Germany.

In club, he won three titles of champion of Spain (2007, 2008, 2012) and three others in Italy (2017, 2018, 2020). He also played and lost a Champions League final in 2017. Che last three years, within the co-owned team of David Beckham, he scored 27 goals in 67 games, without inflating his record.
