That’s the question I was asking myself when I read the article on the front page of the Homework of March 14 (“A European giant lands in Quebec”). A giant that will transform our pig and cattle slurry into methane to supply the Quebec gas network, but also into fertilizer for agriculture. Unsurprisingly, Énergir is delighted!
I am always surprised by this economic news which is not taken in a global context and which is not put to the test of an ecological, environmental analysis, or both (in other words, that the work that governments do not want to do). As in the classic model of the business world, the economic journalist does his ” job “, that in environment makes his own. A vision in a vacuum that always risks having perverse effects.
Thus, while reading the article, I would have liked to know if this company is a “good citizen”. Is his presence in Denmark so appreciated? What is the social acceptance of its activities on the territory? How do the Danes find having 2.2 times more pigs than fellow citizens? If I trust what is happening in Quebec and recent articles that have appeared in The duty about future developments in the pork industry, they must not be so different from us. […]
Rejoice in such an announcement? Too many unanswered questions for me. And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.
