At the final whistle against Sedan on Monday evening, the 5,521 spectators were overwhelmed with happiness. Already because their team had crushed their opponent with a clear score of 3-0, but also (and above all) because Laval took eight points ahead of Concarneau (3rd) and five points over their runner-up Annecy. There was already an air of celebration and a rise in Ligue 2. The supporters firmly believe in it, and the players obviously a little more each week. Monday they danced at the foot of the Crédit Mutuel stand with the fans, the announcer shouted “on the way to Ligue 2” in the enclosures of the stadium.
It would take a hell of a downfall for the team not to go to Ligue 2. Let’s take out the calculator: there are six games left to play, 18 points to distribute. The Tango are points ahead of third place synonymous with play-offs, and nine on fourth. But watch out for the fire anyway.
The last time Laval had a very comfortable mattress while on the podium was three years ago to the day. The Tango had beaten Le Mans on the 29th day of National (3-1, April 6, 2019). Coming out of the derby, they were five points clear of fourth, but behind the team had collapsed. Only one victory in five games. The climb had passed under the noses of the Mayenne.
Today there are therefore six matches left, including one against a big fish in the championship: Concarneau on April 18th. If Laval keeps up the pace, the rise could be celebrated against the Red Star at home on May 6. The leaders are also planning festivities that day, like fireworks.
