Are there too many bazous on our roads?

While on Benoit Dutrizac’s show on QUB radio, the chronicler of Car guide Antoine Joubert affirmed that there would be a cleaning to do with the old cars on the road.

To explain his point, Antoine shared a personal anecdote. “It was yesterday that I experienced the real return of massive congestion in Montreal,” says the columnist. He had to wait 95 minutes between the section of Highway 640 and 40 while he was on 13.

Antoine found that the traffic jam was not the result of obstructions related to construction, but rather because of two pileups involving “bazous”.

“Vehicles are in such poor condition — because of roads and lack of maintenance — that it leads to accidents,” he explains. According to him, the motorist must concentrate as much as possible on the road since several components, such as the brakes, the suspension or the tires, can break or not function properly during an emergency manoeuvre.

Mandatory inspection

Unlike other provinces and countries, Quebec does not impose any mandatory inspection on vehicles traveling on its roads, regardless of their year of manufacture.

” [Nous pourrions] have a system in place for a mechanical inspection every 2-3 years. We should think more about it, ”thinks Antoine. He suggests a verification every five years for a vehicle less than ten years old, whereas it would be every two years for a car more than ten years old.
