While the purchasing power of the French is falling, supermarkets know that their customers are more vigilant than ever on prices. Several brands have decided to retain them by offering subscriptions.

Several supermarkets are betting on subscriptions to retain their customers. Since September, for 5.99 euros per month, a Carrefour near Rouen (Seine-Maritime) has offered consumers a 15% discount on certain private label products.

7,000 references are available in total. A retired couple, who come every week, signed up two months ago. They favor the store brand. They pay for their races in full, and the discount is paid directly into their current account. For the customer, the offer becomes profitable from a purchase of 40 euros. Also, not everyone is convinced. “I don’t want to pay 5.99 euros to be offered discounts, when I’m not sure I’ll come every month”, confides a client. According to the sign, the average basket of subscribers has increased by 30%.
