Tupan for coach

These “open mics” are for the young shoots of rap the opportunity to confront the stage space, the eyes of others and the criticism of professionals. That day in the performance hall Le Bournot, more than a dozen musicians follow one another on the set in front of the rapper Tupan, who does not mince his words. “Don’t forget that you are rapping for the people, there you are looking at the ground, you are in your lyrics and at no time is there any sharing with those who are there”, he launches to the young people who have just finished their piece.

This young 37-year-old from Drôme has easy rhyme. he has been rapping for a long time with his group The bottom of the class. Today, like a big brother, he supports young people, encourages them to express themselves through these workshops. “I like the accessible side to those who don’t have a lot of vocabulary, they can still rap because the important thing is emotion and telling the truth”, assures Tupan.

Rappers and rappers, same fight

All styles of rap are welcome during these open stages. Among the participants this Wednesday, Louka, alias Roza. A fine arts student who satisfies his passion for words through hip hop. “I have a certain vein with writing for a long time, I like poetry, literature, rap allows me to follow this path”, he said.

Throughout the afternoon, heterogeneous trajectories and strong personalities take turns on the set. Among them, rappers who prove that they also have it in their stomachs. “There are lots of girls who rap, it’s just that they are in their room and they don’t dare to come on the ‘open mic’, I rap because it’s liberating”, confides Maya alias Rendcoeur.

Keep an eye out for rap springboards, these young talents are making the first appearances on local stages with the ambition, why not, of one day being the headliner.
