The mission Mosaïc has collected hundreds of data confirming that rising sea levels could change global geography faster than expected.

Boarding the icebreaker Polarstern. The documentary team Arctic expedition, at the heart of global warming spent a year with the Mosaïc mission in the Arctic. This exceptional expedition, which mobilized 300 scientists from 20 countries, explored the heart of this sentinel of climate change. Embarked on board the Polarstern, that they allowed to drift towards the North Pole, the scientists of the mission studied the evolution of the pack ice and found that their ship’s drift, in summer, was three times faster than it could have been one century ago.

The warming of the Arctic associated with the increasingly rapid melting of ice on the mainland is causing a rise in the level of the oceans that is proving catastrophic for the world. The alarmist analysis of scientists is clear: “When you look at the projections, they give figures ranging from one to three meters at the end of the 21st century.” According to the scenarios developed by the researchers, “large coastal areas will be found under water”. The city of “London could even be overwhelmed”, worries Julienne Stroeve, American climatologist in charge ofassess the thickness of the sea ice.

This is confirmed by John Cassano, associate professor in the department of atmospheric and oceanic sciences of Colorado and member of the Mosaic mission. Rising water “is one of the most terrifying impacts of climate change in the polar regions”. “How far will the oceans go? (…) We have the example of Florida, according to projections, the peninsula will gradually disappear”. Elsewhere, such as Bangladesh, where much of the land is very close to sea level, larger areas will be flooded. “This will have an impact on millions of inhabitants (…) it is a major problem and nothing shows that the trend is reversing”, warns John Cassano.

The documentary Arctic expedition, at the heart of global warming, directed by Ashley Morris, airs on France 5 on November 11 at 8:55 p.m.
