Greening steel in France is a symbol. Charcoal furnaces in factoriesArcelor Mittal in Dunkirk (North) will be replaced by hydrogen electric ovens with state aid.
To decarbonize its industry, the State takes out its checkbook. The Prime Minister announced on Friday February 4 a massive investment plan for the next five years. “We are going to devote 5.6 billion euros to decarbonate our industry”said John castex. The goal is to reduce industry emissions by 35% by 2030.
The envelope gives priority to the decarbonization of three streams: chemicals, metallurgy and materials production. The first concerned are Arcelor Mittalleader in the steel industry in France. Three of these five furnaces will be replaced by hydrogen furnaces. This delights the employees. With this investment, Arcelor Mittal is expected to reduce its emissions by almost eight million tonnes 1.8% of the country’s greenhouse gases.
